FULL-ARCH IMPLANTS
All-on-4 or All-on-6? A Guide to Your Consultation Questions
When researching full-arch implant treatment, the names All-on-4 and All-on-6 can make the decision sound like a simple choice of numbers. A useful consultation looks at your needs first.
What do the names mean?
All-on-4 and All-on-6 describe approaches in which four or six implants support a full-arch restoration in the treated jaw. The number alone does not determine which option is suitable. Ask your dentist to explain the recommendation for your case.
Discuss the whole arch
Ask what the assessment shows about your teeth, gums, bite and available bone. If teeth are present, ask which can be retained and why any extraction is being proposed. Understand the alternatives before agreeing to a plan.
Clarify temporary and final restorations
Ask what you would have at each stage, whether a temporary restoration is planned and when the final restoration would be considered. Request an explanation of how clinical findings or healing could change those arrangements.
Make a visit checklist
Before travelling, ask about the expected appointments, potential return visits and how the schedule is confirmed. Discuss risks and the information the clinician needs about your health, medicines and smoking. Do not treat another patient’s timeline as your own.
Look beyond the headline price
Ask whether the quotation is for one arch or both, which restorations it covers and how any additional treatment is handled. Also discuss maintenance, follow-up and who you would contact after returning home.
